+ In December 2002, resolution 57/254 on the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO was designated as lead agency for the promotion of the Decade.&lt;br /&gt;

The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) aims to see Education for Sustainable Development implemented in thousands of local situations on the ground, involving the integration of the principles of Sustainable Development into a multitude of different learning situations. These initiatives can be catalysts for action and contribute to the goals and objectives of the Decade; and thus, organizations and individuals can be actors of the global movement for sustainable development.</description>
