UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014)

+ In December 2002, resolution 57/254 on the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO was designated as lead agency for the promotion of the Decade.

+ Seven interlinked strategies are proposed for the Decade: advocacy and vision building; consultation and ownership; partnership and networks; capacity building and training; research and innovation; information and communication technologies; monitoring and evaluation.

The UN DESD logo is intended to promote awareness and activities pertaining to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.

The UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) aims to see Education for Sustainable Development implemented in thousands of local situations on the ground, involving the integration of the principles of Sustainable Development into a multitude of different learning situations. These initiatives can be catalysts for action and contribute to the goals and objectives of the Decade; and thus, organizations and individuals can be actors of the global movement for sustainable development.
